We don't want to leave heavy footprints on our wonderful world, so we're trying to keep our own footprint as light and green as possible. We're working on recycling, fair-trade and energy-saving initiatives throughout our business and our Clothes for Life campaign supports customers who recycle their Monsoon clothes, celebrating our belief in sustainable, long-life fashion.
Monsoon was born from clothes made in Indian villages using vegetable dyes, hand-loomed cotton and block printing. We may have grown into a global company but we remain committed to our bohemian roots. This is celebrated in the beautiful hand-crafted touches that have been our signature style since 1973 and our support of ethical designers through Estethica, at London Fashion Week, to bring you fashion that makes you both look and feel good.
We value all our people - they are the ones who work tirelessly to sell and create beautiful fabrics, inspired styles and imaginative designs. Long before fair-trade became fashionable, we worked to develop sustainable partnerships with suppliers, and were a founding member of the Ethical Trading Initiative, promoting fair working conditions and pay. We're not claiming to have all the answers but, from the artisans working in homes to our shop teams, valuing people is part of who we are.
Through the Monsoon Accessorize Trust we have been helping to improve the lives of disadvantaged women and children in Asia for fifteen years, with projects focusing on education, health and income generation. Today, we fund a range of projects from programmes to provide health care in remote villages to projects that help women make a living from their traditional embroidery craft.
As clever and as new fangled as this all might sound, these are the values that we have been trying our hardest to live by since 1973. We're not perfect but nor are we just applying a bit of 'green-wash' onto our business. This journey continues to form the backbone of our company, as it has done for over 35 years.
